Leaving Hershey PA
While we were here in PA, my son stayed for a weekend with his friend, Daria. We had a nice visit. A little to many white russians though. We roasted some marshmallows & sat by the campfire, typical camping weekend.
If you visit the Hershey area, you must go to Shady Maple.
It is the largest smorgasboard I have ever seen. The food is endless. Too much to chose from. The gift store in the basement is like shopping at a mall. http://www.shady-maple.com/ Check it out.
So we are moving on. See you in VA.

Visiting With Good Friends In NY
We took a trip back in time to the 60's. Remember the Woodstock concert. Three days of music. August 15, 16 & 17, 1969. 500,000 people gathered on the lawn of Max Yasgur's farm with traffic jams of up to 20 miles long. Just imagine that. There was lots of rain, not enough food, plenty of drugs and lack of bathroom facilities. The music of the decades. Man I wish I was there then. John and his friends were planning on going when he heard Arlo Guthrie on the radio say "the NY thruway is closed man". We spoke to a man from Texas that was at Woodstock & he told us the thruway was never shut down. This man came to Woodstock & never left. He was sitting there with pictures of the historic concert & the new museum. Now they do have outdoor concerts there every year. Behind this monument was the Woodstock concert. The bowl was where the bands played & the hill was filled with the fans. We went to a Harvest fest on the Woodstock grounds. The band reminded me of the Janis Joplin or Gracie Slick times in the 60's. It was a beautiful day, a little crisp in the shade.
Hanging with friends
We had a wonderful weekend with our friends Chuckie & Barb and our RV buddies, Ruth & Bucky. Again it is all about the food.

Lake George, NY
The lake was beautiful.
Lake George Antique Car Show
Antique car show at Lake George, NY. Wow!!! Busy town today. At night the road the main road through town was blocked off for a of parade of cars. I have never seen Lake George so busy. So many beautiful antique cars. The streets were lined with antique cars. Parked on the roads, in the parking lots, at the hotels, everywhere a car could park there was one.

On the Move
It really meant alot to both of us to see so many friends & family on this trip. Well hope to see them all soon and in good health.
Vanderbilt Mansion
While visiting with friends & family in NY, we did manage to do some sight seeing. We went to the Vanderbilt Mansion and I couldn't take any pictures inside due to flash. I tried taking some pictures without the flash but it was way to dark inside. They keep it dark to preserve the furnishing. This is a National Historic Site. Roosevelt bought it for $1.00 for the National Park System. It is the only private residence in the park system.
We also toured West Point. It has a great deal of security now, since 9/11.
Roosevelts home
This is Roosevelts car. The car has special equipment so he was able to drive without the use of his legs. He once took the Queen mom for a ride & she was quoted as saying the scariest thing she ever did was take a ride with Roosevelt. At the age of 39, he contracted polio. From then on he was never able to walk alone unaided. He got the virus from a boyscout outing in Bear Mt. At the time no one really knew about polio. Roosevelt led a sheltered life & wasn't exposed to the elements of Bear Mt.
Roosevelt started the National Park System. He was the only president elected to the presidency 4 times. He died in the beginning of his fourth term.
